New Manx language learning opportunities for 2026

2026 is Blein ny Gaelgey – the Year of the Manx Language – make this YOUR year to learn and enjoying using Manx!

Culture Vannin is expanding the range of learning opportunities available to adults, from introducing more weekly classes, to pop-up sessions and confidence boosters, skills-development sessions, and taster courses. The annual Scoill Souree (Manx Gaelic Summer School), which takes place in late July, will also offer a range of courses from absolute beginners to advanced students.

The Manx classes are delivered by trained, experienced and encouraging teachers, and are immensely popular. There is a recommended donation for classes to help towards running costs, but if you are on a low income or in full-time education, a limited number of bursaries are available – please contact Culture Vannin in confidence.

There are three new Manx classes for beginner adults starting week-beginning Monday 12th January. It doesn’t matter if you have lived here all your life, or if you are brand new to the Island – you will be welcome! These classes are led by Jamys O’Meara, a supportive, fun, and knowledgeable teacher, on behalf of Culture Vannin. You can sign-up to classes by visiting www.learnmanx.com, by emailing gaelg@culturevannin.im or by phoning 694753.

Culture Vannin will also be running a number of ‘taster’ courses after February half term. These will last 6 weeks, and cover a number of topics, from useful and interesting vocabulary, to Manx place names, the history of the Manx language, and the Manx that we see all around us. More information, including how to sign-up, will be available soon.

Alongside beginner lessons and taster courses, there are confidence-boosting sessions, and weekly classes that take place throughout the academic year, and to which new students are always welcome.

It’s also possible to engage with Manx from the comfort of your home, from numerous online learning materials on www.learnmanx.com to different social media accounts that promote and celebrate the language. How about following accounts like @learnmanx, @breeascree, @un_ockle or @gaelg.syfeie to help bring a bit of daily Manx into your feed – and life – in fun and easy ways.
