Organise an Event

We invite individuals, groups, and organisations to organise events as part of the Year of the Manx Language. Events can be big or small and should aim to create welcoming opportunities for people to experience and enjoy Manx. This could include beginner Manx taster sessions, storytelling or music evenings, community workshops, or informal gatherings where people can learn a few words and phrases.

By organising an event, you can help inspire people of all ages to connect with and celebrate the Manx language.

Planning your event

Confirm the date, time and venue of your event.
Ensure your event is inclusive and accessible. Confirm your venue has accessible facilities. Plan who your audience will be and how to include Manx speakers of all abilities.
Apply for funding if you need supporting in delivering your event.

Promoting your event

Local media

Most local media outlets are happy to help promote community events. You can access a list of local media contacts here.

You can send a press release to local media outlets – keep it concise engaging and include all details. We have a template Media Release here you can use.

Sometimes local outlets might want to know more and invite you to be interviewed about your event. We have some tips here for talking to the media and doing interviews.

If you have any personal contacts then use them – word of mouth goes far on the Isle of Man.

Social media

You can create posts on social media and #YearOfManx # BleinNyGaelgey to make sure that your posts are found by anyone interested in The Year.

Tag in Manx language and cultural organisations such as @culturevannin and they may choose to share your posts to amplify your messages. This will as ask them to share posts. Make sure to include fun graphics, eye-catching photos or film content to make your posts stand out.

Engage with your audience by responding to comments and sharing their posts.

Final checklist

Post live updates on social media during your event
Take photographs and film footage during your event
Thank participants via social media afterwards
Don’t forget to follow up with the local media after your event with a media release letting them know how it went, and including a selection of photos.
