Culture Vannin collaborates with ‘Doctor Cymraeg’ for a long-weekend of creative and educational work!

Culture Vannin is delighted to welcome Stephen Rule, the Welsh-language educator and content creator better known as Doctor Cymraeg, to the Isle of Man this February. Stephen will be teaming together with Ruth Keggin Gell, Manx Language Development Officer at Culture Vannin to deliver a jam-packed programme of events!

Together, they bring infectious enthusiasm, practical teaching experience, and a shared belief in the power of minority languages to connect people, build confidence, and create community. Stephen’s visit is an exciting opportunity to celebrate Blein ny Gaelgey, the Year of the Manx Language, inspiring people of all ages to use Manx more confidently, creatively, and visibly, both online and offline.

Ruth Keggin Gell, Manx Language Development Officer at Culture Vannin, says:

“Manx is one of our Island’s greatest success stories, and something that we can all be proud of, no matter how much Manx we know! Sharing this message clearly and meaningfully is key to building wider understanding of the treasure that is Manx – both here and further afield. We are so excited to welcome Stephen to the Island; he’s a passionate supporter of minority languages, and his enthusiasm is infectious – I have no doubt that his visit will make a lasting impact.”

Ruth and Stephen will present a range of events between Saturday 7th – Monday 9th February. Click on ‘further information’ after each listed event to read more, and book places (where appropriate).

Saturday 7th February: “Content WILL contain Manx!” – Content Creation Workshops

Two free, practical workshops will take place on Saturday, aimed at helping people create engaging Manx-language social media content.

Led by Stephen Rule (Doctor Cymraeg) and Ruth Keggin Gell, the sessions are open to anyone with some Manx, from beginners to fluent speakers. Young people aged 13+ are welcome with an accompanying adult.

Workshop times and locations:

  • 10.00am – 12.00pm: Ramsey Town Hall
  • 2.00pm – 4.00pm: Athol Room, Peel Centenary Centre

The aim is to help people feel confident using Manx creatively on social media, and to encourage sharing content during Say a Manx Phrase Week (16-21 February).
